I couldn't write any sooner, I'm afraid, because I was ill. It wasn't too bad, but I'd have got better much quicker if you'd been here with me. I got up today for the first time. We tried on our winter things today. We don't really know what's what. Mummy, listen: I'm sure you're getting cold now. Shouldn't we send you a dress or a pair of gloves? Darling Mummy, are you really getting some sleep?

I was supposed to go to Gisela's in Nienhagen last Saturday, but I couldn't because I was in bed. That night Dr Stephan's maid came and asked if I'd taken the 1.45 bus, because that bus had come unhitched from its trailer, which was why the Stephans were so terribly worried. On Sunday morning Aunt Lore sent a telegram to Nienhagen saying I was still alive and kicking. I shall go there next Sunday. Let's hope nothing gets in the way.
